When it comes to Kagiso Rabada’s fitness for the first Test against Australia, South Africa will wait until the last minute. As the squad prepared for the challenge, Kagiso Rabada’s participation in the series opener in Durban from October 9 to 13 remained uncertain owing to a hamstring injury sustained during winter training.
After Kagiso Rabada played a two-day intra-squad match on October 5 and 6, batting coach Ashwell Prince provided a report on the player’s recovery.
The inspection took place while South Africa was finishing up preparations for the first Test at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium.

Prince said that he has a good idea of who would make up the top six but cannot share anything, implying that South Africa is also keeping their batting lineup a secret. When asked if Tristan Stubbs, Wiaan Mulder, or David Bedingham could fill in at No. 3, Prince cited uncapped batsman Marques Ackerman as a possible candidate, boosting the probability that he will make his Test debut at home.
