Delhi Capitals’ wicketkeeper-batter Abhishek Porel was granted bail on September 18, 2026, by the Chinsurah court after spending 36 days in legal custody. On June 23, 2026, a Karnataka medical student filed a complaint at the Mogra police station accusing him of rape and criminal intimidation, resulting in Porel’s arrest on August 11, 2026.
The complainant had apparently told police that she had a three-and-a-half-year romance with Abhishek Porel and they had talked about marriage and planned trips overseas. She said Abhishek Porel later denied the relationship altogether too. The complaint has been registered under Sections 66 and 72 of the Information Technology Act and Sections 311 and 318 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Earlier, the Calcutta High Court had directed police to arrest Porel and seize his electronic devices. He was first shown before a lesser court and denied bail and was remanded to judicial prison. Police had also arrested a lady and one of Abhishek Porel’s friends in the same probe. Police had been called about a year and a half before to the June 2026 claim due to a conflict between the complainant and Porel. But the encounter ended with no formal complaint being made. Porel has denied all the charges leveled against him.

Abhishek Porel made his first-class debut for Bengal in the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy. Since then he has played 32 first-class and 23 List A games for the state.
