On October 11, while racing between wickets in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy season opener against Chandigarh, Ayush Mhatre, the 19-year-old Mumbai skipper and India U-19 World Cup captain, suffered a severe right hamstring strain. The young Chennai Super Kings hitter had to undergo surgery at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Hospital due to a grade 4 injury.
On Thursday, October 22, Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala performed the procedure. According to a BCCI insider, Ayush Mhatre has begun his recovery and is expected to return to competitive cricket in a reasonable length of time. As part of his initial rehabilitation, he began walking with crutches on Friday morning, October 23.
When did Ayush Mhatre get hurt?
On October 11, the Mumbai batsman was injured while dashing between wickets against Chandigarh on the first day of the Ranji Trophy season. His right leg had a Grade 4 hamstring injury, which required to be treated immediately and subsequently surgically repaired. Ayush Mhatre and Yashasvi Jaiswal opened the innings in the game before being sidelined by an injury.
How long will it take to recover?
A grade 4 hamstring injury is one of the most significant muscle injuries, and it usually requires a lengthy recovery period.
