Mominul Haque, Bangladesh’s batting all-rounder and left-arm spinner, has agreed to enhance his bowling role for the national team at the request of Test captain Najmul Hossain Shanto. The move aims to provide relief and rotation for Bangladesh’s front-line spinners in future Test matches.
While the majority of the Test team was playing a tri-nation ODI series in the United Arab Emirates, Mominul Haque received extensive bowling training from the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s High Performance Unit. He last bowled in a Test match in 2023, going 3 for 4 against New Zealand at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. He played his final Test against Australia on August 13, 2026.
Why is Mominul Haque focusing on bowling?
Shanto highlighted that Mominul’s bowling, as an option to offspinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz, may help frontline spinners handle their workload more effectively. The skipper learned that, while pace bowlers typically alternate spinners, dealing with the physical demands of fast bowling takes meticulous planning.
How dedicated is Mominul Haque to his bowling position?
Mominul Haque has enthusiastically welcomed the opportunity, viewing it as an opportunity to make a substantial contribution rather than simply doing part-time bowling duty. Shanto stressed that Mominul accepted without hesitation and that, if given the opportunity in Test cricket, the all-rounder is determined to impress with his bowling range.

Mominul will have his first opportunity to implement this bowling focus at the international level on October 28, 2026, when Bangladesh’s two-match Test series against the West Indies begins at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
