Usman Tariq made his T20I debut against South Africa at Lahore in November 2025, and his impact on international cricket was instant. In 2026, he played in the Pakistan Super League, The Hundred, and the Caribbean Premier League, and his performances in other T20 leagues drew attention.
Saud Shakeel, Pakistan’s middle-order batsman, recently given an honest opinion of Usman Tariq‘s current place in the game. Shakeel argues that as opposition batters begin to analyse and prepare for his approaches, the initial novelty of the spinner may be waning. The left-handed hitter believes Usman Tariq needs to adjust his method now in order to remain as productive as possible.
“Usman Tariq quickly established himself in the cricket world, but batters are now well-prepared to face him. “Usman will have to do something different to prove himself,” Shakeel told journalist Arfa Feroz Zake on X.
Shakeel’s remarks toward Usman Tariq should change.
Usman Tariq most recently represented the Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League. He grabbed 10 wickets at an average of 21.30 in nine games in the competition, with an economy rate of 6.26 and best figures of 3/21. These figures demonstrate that he is still capable of taking wickets, but Shakeel’s analysis suggests that batters are becoming more adept at countering his strategy.
As their careers advance, many specialised bowlers face the challenge Shakeel has mentioned. The sense of novelty that first made a bowler exceptional may diminish as batters become acclimated to their patterns and methods. Tariq will need to continue improving his bowling repertoire and devising new techniques if he wants to maintain his international prominence.
